Date | Original Topic | 30th December 2001 | Identity of British Soldiers By Dave Thompson I believe that two local men from where I live (Runcorn, Cheshire)were survivors of Rorkes Drift. They were uintroduced to King George V on his visit to the town in 1925.
Is there any way I could trace further details on their efforts with the garrison, since these men were not VC recipiants.

I have no record of men from Runcorn being at Rorke's Drift. The lists don't always give places of birth. A few from Liverpool, Manchester and Wigan.
Could I suggest you contact your local paper for their help, they would surely thave reported the visit?

I have a copy of the 1925 newspaper article in the regimental archives. | 31st December 2001 | Ian Woodason Both men's memorial headstones are on the Keynsham Light Horse website ('links' on the left)and I will shortly be putting up copies of recent local paper articles on them including photographs. As regards individual movements during the battle, your original question, the best thing is to read as many accounts of the battle as possible and look for mentions of them - Victorian Voices - link from this or the KLH site has a wealth of first hand accounts. There are some good books on the battle, and some not so good, so read as many as possible to get as wide a view.
