Date | Original Topic | 17th February 2001 | How can we do things better? By Suggestions please As you may or may not know, this site gets updated quite a bit, and I was wondering how we can make it better... Is the discussion forum working for you? Do you like the layout? Are the colours OK? Any feedback would be most appreciated.
Peter
Webmaster | Date | Replies | 18th February 2001 | Barry Iacoppi First. Let me say I like this site. I have far far more to learn then contribute.
I would prefer to see all letters posted on the one list, grouped by subject and unread letters highlighted or flaged. Older letters to roll off the the end of the database list.
I think you are brave to ask. I would not know where to start. | 19th February 2001 | Peter Hi Barry,
It's a good suggestion, and I have been thinking about adding a "new" icon or suchlike to indicate new entries in topics..
If you think of anything else, let me know!!
Thanks, Peter | 2nd March 2001 | Diana Blackwell Your site's layout, colors, etc. are logical and pleasing. The format of the message boards is especially nice because it allows readers to scroll through the entries without having to open each one individually. | 3rd March 2001 | Peter Critchley Thanks Diana,
I am still working on the 'new' flag, as Barry suggests, and appreciate any comments people may have.
All the best, Peter | 5th April 2001 | Kyle My suggestion is only four words... THE FILM ZULU DAWN! | 25th April 2001 | Bobby I think that this discussion forum is one of the best I've ever seen. It's so easy to use yet highly functional. Well done! | 7th June 2001 | George Indeed, a very impressive site. As I work at a U.S. public school district, I'm doing a bit of evangelizing to the history staff to include Isandlwana, Rorke's Drift and S.A. history in general.
The Discussion forum is becoming well used. Im a regular reader. Sometimes Id like to see how many unread messages there are in a particular thread. Anything from a simple 3 of 5 to a tree including headers would allow for a quick scan for new messages. The list is so popular I can't remember the exact number of responses now to identify those with new entries.
One other tidbit. The Royal Regiment of Wales (24th/41st Foot) Museum has kindly provided me with their words for Men of Harlech available as audio on this site. As per the Men of Harlech thread in the discussion group, there is a corrected version, quite accurate.
Thanks for the work of keeping up a great site!
Very best,

| 7th June 2001 | Peter Hi George,
Thanks for taking the time to submit your suggestions... As you can see from the messages above, you're not the only one who could use a notification of some sort for new threads in discussions.. I work closely with the chap who has done the database back-end work for the site, and we will be working on the new version imminently... I too find it difficult to memorize the numbers of threads in any one topic...
Keep your fingers crossed, and hopefully it wont be too long...
All the best,
Peter | 28th July 2003 | Simon Copley Brilliant site - I am HOOKED
but can we have search index for topics on Discussion forum? I can never remember where they are? |
