Vereker (played by Simon Ward), accompanies Melvill and Coghill to fugitives' drift. He was not killed in the film, but what really happened to him?
Alan | Date | Replies | 12th August 2001 | Ian Woodason Alan,
He was killed before getting anywhere near as far as the river - it is said that he got on a loose horse to escape but a native trooper told him it was his horse and so Vereker gave it up to him and perished. Check out his memorials on my website (URL above). There is a section on him in Tim Day's book of Anglo-Zulu War memorials 'But Burdens Shouldered' - and his father was qualified to be 'in the House of Lords'
Ian Woodason | 12th August 2001 | John Young Alan,
