Date | Original Topic | 14th July 2001 | Victorian military issue knives By Barry Iacoppi Others and I on the Martini Henry forum are interested in finding out what kind if any knives were the British soldier issued with during the Anglo/Zulu wars. If there was not an issue knife what was the most likley private purchase ?
Your help will be much appreciated. | Date | Replies | 16th July 2001 | John Young Barry,
There was a wooden handled folding knife issued, I did have an example, but it appears to have disappeared! It had a blade about 3"-4" long, which folded back into the handle.
Others opted for local hunting/Bowie knives. I have seen an example of this worn on an o/r's equipment belt.
John | 23rd July 2001 | Barry Thanks John. Any idea of where I could get a picture of this knife. Do you know if it was an issue knife or a private purchase ?
Barry | 24th July 2001 | John Young Barry,
This knife was an issued one, there must be a sealed pattern of it somewhere in the U.K., if not I'm with the Die-Hards over the weekend, I'll see if any of them have one.
John | 25th July 2001 | Barry Thanks again John. That will be much appreciated.
"Die-Hards" ??? | 24th December 2001 | Glenn Wade The 'Die-Hards' are a group that re-enact the Victorian military era. |
