Date | Original Topic | 4th June 2001 | Medals worn By Glynn Williams I was wondering if any one can confirm if Colour SGT Bourne is wearing the 1902 Coronation medal in the movie Zulu. | Date | Replies | 4th June 2001 | alan critchley Glynn,
I believe that the medals worn by CS Bourne in the film were the King George V Coronation Medal from 1912 and The Ashanti War Medal of 1896-97. Obviously not of the correct periods.
Alan Critchley | 4th June 2001 | Martin Everett CSgt (later Lt Col Frank Bourne) was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal and South Africa War medal with clasp 1887-8-9 for his service in South Africa. He was later awarded the India General Service (1854) Medal with clasp Burma 1887-89 and was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for his WW1 service. He was aged 24 years at the time of Rorke's Drift. Obviously the movie needed a more mature Sergeant Major character to make it good entertainment. |
