JOHN CHARD MEDAL NO 10391 I would appreciate if someone could supply me with more info regarding the person that were rewarded with this medal in 1879,also the number of soldiers in overall that recieved this reward.
Money value of such a medal would be interesting.

You might start with clicking the link a little to the left and down from your posting. (First under "The VC Winners".) Money value would indeed be interesting if one of his medals is back on the market!

The John Chard Medal is a South African award and is not rare. Current value would be £30-£40GBP.

Sorry, misread the heck out of that one! For what act is the John Chard Medal awarded?

Michael,
The John Chard Decoration and the John Chard Medal are official long service awards for the RSA part-time forces. They replaced the British versions of the TD and TEF Medal when SA became a republic. It is strange but a great honour that John Chard is remembered in this way. Each medal has a scene of Rorke's Drift.
