Date | Original Topic | 29th April 2005 | Sling supporting Durnford's injured left arm ? By Coll This may seem a minor detail, but as I would like to get it right if/when I obtain a replica of Col. Durnford's uniform.
I'm aware that when he wore a jacket, he tended to put his arm between the buttons at the front for support. However, I also read he had a pocket specially made inside the jacket for this purpose.
My question is this, when not wearing a jacket, apparently he wore a sling for support, and I wondered if it would have been similar to that worn by Hitch in the famous photograph of him, which seems to be made of leather ?
I know it does seem trivial, but as part of the accessories necessary, I thought this would be more effective than a sling made out of cloth.
I guess, in the long run, it doesn't really matter, but it would be nice to find out for sure, as it is a detail I might have overlooked in my AZW books.
Thanks
Coll
PS. I apologise if this has been covered in a previous topic. | Date | Replies | 2nd May 2005 | Coll Further to the above.
Can anybody tell me where I could find clear illustrations/photographs of the leather sling worn by Hitch, showing full details of the complete construction, back and front.
I'm unable to locate such images, mostly finding modern versions.
Thanks
