Date | Original Topic | 14th March 2005 | Value of Snider Mk III By Neil Raaff Hi All,
Could any of you firearm buffs on the forum please give me an estimate on the value of a deactivated Snider MKIII carbine? It is date stamped 1870 and came from SA.
Regards,
Neil | Date | Replies | 15th March 2005 | Michael Boyle Neil,
I don't really know much about the value of deactivated weapons but functional (as opposed to functioning) Snider Mk IIIs go from USD 560-750 with those from the Nepalese haul going for USD 995.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't realise they were that "cheap". I would have expected to pay considerably more for a functional weapon.
In saying that, my father who is back in South Africa recently aquired a fully functional Martini Henry from a farmer for R1000 (less than £100)! I would say that was a fairly lucky find though.

Just a thought, coming from SA, if either of the weapons had some provenance dating them to the AZW their value may be greatly increased. (I believe Snider carbines were in use by some of Durnford's men.) (Also, you might want to check the stock on the M-H to see if you can discern a 24, if so I'll give you twice what your father paid ! )

Michael | 22nd March 2005 | Paul Mercer There are quite a lot of Sniders and Martini's around, unfortunately now they have been taken 'off ticket' and no longer need to be deactivated, the price has gone up considerably. You would expect to pay £500-£750 for either in good working order, anything connected to the Zulu wars would increase that price. |
