Rorkes Drift: A New Perspective.

I've just received a copy of a new book on Rorke's Drift which promises to be a worthwhile read.
Well illustrated including contributions from Simon Smith and Chris Collingwood.

I look forward to reading it.

Thorntons enthusiasm for the subject is inspiring and his in-depth knowledge is exceptional.
I welcome his new refresh look on how the battle developed. His narrative has certainly given me
food for thought and will do the same for many others.

James Bancroft, author of Rorkes Drift: The Zulu War 1879

Neil Thornton has gone back to those primary sources, picking over those diligently sought-out
by others before him, uncovering some that have been overlooked, and piecing them together
with a precision that has not always characterised studies of the battle. Even if you think you know
the battle of Rorkes Drift, his conclusions will intrigue and inspire you.

Ian Knight, author of Zulu Rising: The Epic Story of Isandlwana and Rorkes Drift

Alan,

Ian Knight's comment regarding newly pieced together information gleaned from the evidence does intrigue.

My copy is on order.

Library grows yet more.......

Having now read Neil's book, I have to say that I am very impressed.
It's like approaching the subject anew.

It is extremely comprehensive and covers so much new ground, it makes
me wonder why I've never seen it all before. The story is told just as a new
perspective and that throws up a host of new (to me) facts about events and
timings. All this a backed up by painstaking research and reference material.

It fills in gaps which existed but with material which is important. It throws
light on events where there was little or no information.

All this is supplemented with very helpful illustrations and material on the
defenders, much of it new. A definite addition to anyone's collection.
