Used to be called The Moonraker. I haven't been in for a very long time but it was one of my old stamping grounds years ago. Happy days!

It'll never win any aesthetic awards, it's a large, bustling watering hole where people gather to have a drink and a chat, usually in that order !

OK, if you wish to attend the service, you need to be at the Church (St. Michael and All Angels, Newport Road, Llantarnam, Cwmbran) by 10:30 latest as there are road closures for the parade which starts at about 10:45. The service (around the grave) is at 11:00.
Everyone welcome.

Best regards, Col.

That's the Church of course, not the John Fielding pub.

Another very well attended Annual Memorial Service, conducted by Reverend Frieda Evans and assisted by
Canon John Griffiths and Reverend Canon Brian R Pippen.

Parade was ably led by Newport City Steadfast Band, followed by representatives of the various
Army units with their standards. Although bright, it was still very cold.

Attending was Colin Fielding & family and his brother. Also attending, The Mayor of Tofaen Councillor Mandy Owen
and Rt. Hon. Paul Murphy MP.
If there were any other forum member there I'm afraid I didn't recognise them.

Is anyone aware of a similar event which happens for any of the other VCs?

My congratulations to everyone involved in organising the service on Saturday.

It was a great privilege and pleasure to take part (I was the drum major for the band) and I thought that everything went really well. I did look for you, Colin, but as we don't know each other, I couldn't find you!

Hopefully, we (the band) will be invited to take part next year, so we can maybe meet then!

Mornin' all, service went very well. The organiser(s), CADESA, were very happy with the event, as this was their first year of doing it. Many thanks to all involved, it is hugely appreciated.
For the record (Scorer), in the photo I am on the extreme right, erupting from the buglers helmet! The partially hidden guy with the beard is my brother, Pete. The lad to my right is my youngest son , Alex. My daughter Hannah was there too but is obscured( or had just fallen over Surprised) ).
I don't know of any annual memorial service for any of the other defenders. Quite why this is, I have no idea !! The likes of Tim Needham do truly excellent work in researching and organising one off re-dedications but after that, I don't know if they are celebrated annually to any level.
Yes, it was bloomin' cold !!
Thanks again for everyones' efforts in making the day possible and to all those that attended and observed the ceremony with immaculate respect.
Best regards, Col.
