A few of interesting stats arise from the recently published Heritage Council report.
1.Mangwebebuthanani Traditional Authority, which owns a 25% stake in the gate takings at Isandlwana battlefield received over R32,000 during the financial year. ( Comment: Time to increase the entrance fees?)
2.R50,000,000 has been allocated by treasury to establish heritage multimedia centres in the province.
3. 12,000 people visited the oNdini Historic Reserve with the oNdini museum refurbished at a cost of R80,000.
4.Isandlwana recorded 15,000 visitors.
5. Shiyane/ Rorke's Drift was visited by 17,000.
6. R500,000 allocated for design and erection of a memorial for Zulu KIA at RD.
7. A memorial has been erected at Fort Durnford at the site where Cetshwayo boarded the ship which took him into exile.
8.Prince Dabulamanzi's gravesite will be recognised by a memorial to be erected and a road to lead to the site.
9. Spionkop was visited by 10,000.
