Yes, I did look at this but there is nothing in colour its all understandably in black and white. I was hoping someone had colour photos or drawings. |

Hi Mick,
The Natal Carbineers wore a dark blue tunic with pointed white facings. Trousers were blue with a broad white stripe. They wore either the pillbox cap or a white helmet with spike and badge which bore the letters 'NC'. Actually, I've just found this... http://samilitaryhistory.org/vo044cpe.gif Hope it's of use. Cheers, Glenn |

I've found over time, if reading a novel based during an actual historical event, an illustrated book to assist you visualise uniforms, people, etc., is a huge plus. Therefore, I recommend the following uniform book - Elite Series No.32 : British Forces In Zuluand 1879. by Ian Knight, Richard Scollins. If really interested, there are several other helpful titles from Osprey. They are not hugely expensive and will help to a great extent. Especially, if you end up taking a serious interest in the AZW1879. Coll |

Glenn, Thanks for this just what I wanted. I paint model soldiers old Britains or similar as a hobby. I have been reading this book (Zulu Hart) and thought it would be interesting to covert one into a Natal Carbineer. This picture is perfect. |
