Does anyone have access to this book by Anthony Durnford’s Brother, Edward Durnford. If so, I would very much like to have access to it if possible.
Many thanks

What information do you need from it?

Hi John,
I am interested in the controversy regarding the possible removal of orders from Anthony’s body. I know that Edward Durnford ran a campaign, supported by Fanny Colenso to try to put right the perceived slur on his character.

GeeTee27,

In that case I would say that you need Kris Herron’s books, rather than Edward Durnford’s book.

The second volume explores what you looking for:
‘Durnford 1879 from Isandlwana to Chatham: Colonel Anthony William Durnford the Isandlwana Papers - 140 Years Later.’

Edward Durnford's grave in St. Nicholas Graveyard, Harpenden.

Thank you John. I have read Chris Herron’s book, but in a number of places he refers to Edward Durnford’s volume which made me curious.

You could trawl the internet for whoever is selling off the D.P. & G. reprints, or try ordering through your local library service. If they provided an original copy you might be restricted to reading in your library.

An original first of this book is almost impossible to find.
I have never really seen it being advertised online
The other books by Francis Colenso are quite often on sale

Hello Damian,

I regret that my copy is in my library in QLD and I'm in CBR, so am unable to help. However, I did find you a copy on-line:

https://www.bookfinder.com/search/?ac=sl&st=sl&ref=bf_s2_a1_t1_1&qi=j,vdhg5URpY7XHxqPcLIz2KNUcE_1696481377_1:16:30&bq=author%3De%2E%2520lt%2E%2520col%2520durnford%26title%3Dsoldier%2527s%2520life%2520and%2520work%2520in%2520south%2520africa%25201872%2D1879

Ouch!

As an aside, noting the issues with the Herron books when first published; are these issues now resolved?
