It seems to be difficult to get to the cemetry at Fort Napier. It is all locked up.

For those wishing to either view or photograph the grave, please contact Steve Watt, who resides in Pietermaritzburg. He has the keys to the cemetery entrance at Fort Napier and may be contacted at 0333865188. He is more than willing to assist.

By the way, there is a code for the lock that you can obtain at the gate.

This is a big ask, but wish to ask anyway -
Say, come a future Isandlwana Anniversary, the likes of myself wished to place a wreath of some kind on Anthony's grave in remembrance, through someone who was going to manage to visit it on the 22nd January of any year from 2013 onwards. Would this be against cemetery rules ? As I can never get there myself, I'd like to be able to my respects and show support, in this way, with perhaps a message on it of some sort. A bit sentimental I know, but it is just an enquiry. I've a similar idea for Edward's grave, though I'd probably just wait until if/when I get to visit his in person. Thanks in advance Coll |

I can't see placing a wreath being against any rules. How long it would stay in place is another matter as the cemetery would be tided on a regular basis.

Yes. As long as it was there exactly on the day in question, 22nd January, hopefully staying in place the whole day, then the job'll be a good 'un. Additionally, photographs of it in situ, to know it was successful. I'd be a happy man. Coll |

There will definitely be no problem with or objection to placing a wreath on Col Durnford's grave. You may wish to make it even more moving and ask a member of the Natal Carbineers to do the honours on your behalf. Regards, Ken

Thanks. Do you know if there has ever been any sort of ceremony, even of a smaller kind, being conducted at Col. Durnford's grave since he was buried ? A Natal Carbineer laying a wreath would say a great deal, if it could be organised. Thanks again Coll |
