I look upon it as a companion book to the previous 'Fighting Techniques'. I'll only know better when obtained. Coll |

I recently promised not to post on the forum, because of previous events, but with you asking me a question by name, it is only right to give you an answer. I didn't get the above, as I noticed the following, which I purchased instead - http://www.ospreypublishing.com/store/Vanquished_9781846033278 Written much like the 'Fighting Techniques' book, it makes a great companion to it. Interestingly, the whole thing comes down to the leadership, which helps to demonstrate, that lack of immediate decisions compounded by inaction, is just, if not more, deadly, than responding too quickly to unfolding events. Also, there is a great sentence at the very end - 'War is uncontrollable once unleashed' Coll |

Coll,
Many thanks for your last. Vanquished looks to be a very interesting book. AMB As an aside, and totally off topic: As an Aston owner, I particularly like the title! |

I will be getting 'Lessons In Imperial Rule' at some stage, as I feel it could have something to offer, research-wise. If I do obtain it, I'll give a review here, if you are still interested. Coll |

You know "Vanquished" is a very good book highlighting the specific battles. As I read the one on the Teutoberg Forest where the Roman legions were destroyed by Germanic tribes I couldn't help thinking about Chelmsford as he made his foray into Zulu territory from Isandhlwana. The Zulu didn't attack him nor did they ambush him but watched his movements very carefully. I wondered how Chelmsford would have fared if he was baited as the Roman army was and forced to fight on a ground of the Zulu's choosing and cut off from the rest of his army.
