Private Evan JONES 25B/1428
(Alias Patrick COSGROVE)

Born 1859 at Bedwelty, Ebbw Vale, Monmouthshire. Enlisted at Brecon 20/7/1877. Had previously served in the Royal Monmouth Engineers.

He had numerous postings. He continued to serve until his discharge on 10/2/1920.

He took part in the defence of Rorke's Drift. He received the South Africa Medal with clasp 1877-8-9, India General Service Medal 1854 with clasp Burma 1887-89, and a Territorial Efficiency Medal.

He married Alice Evans, widow with four children, in 15/10/1898 at the Register Office, Welshpool. Residence in 1900 was 7 Bear Yard, Welshpool. He died at 19 Union Street , Welshpool 12/8/1931. Buried with military honours at St. Mary's Churchyard, Welshpool.
