This is truly a great site

As an ex Black Watch piper I still remember the feeling of enormous pride in wearing my No 1 Dress, every part of it steeped in history, this pride I felt and still feel as I still pipe must be increased ten fold when the Current members of The Royal Regiment of Wales don their uniform, to me this action that took place at Rourkes Drift has been a facination to me from first seeing the film as a child, and after reading the information on this site it becomes even more amazing, is there a club I can join now that I'am online, I dont say that I know everything about this action, in fact I would probably be considered an amatuer, but I would love to communicate with others who feel the same way as I do about this battle. This is by far the most interesting site I have found. Excellant

To all my fellow Zulu movie fans. Can anyone tell me where I can purchase a copy of Zulu Dawn on dvd in the U.S. I have seen on the internet copies available, but from the UK (region 2). I am assuming that a region 2 disc cannot be played on a region 1 player. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Glenn Stacy

Beautifully Designed Site.

This site carries a tremendous wealth of information. As an American amateur military historian, the Anglo-Zulu Wars have been a favorite topic of mine. Your diligence is remarkable.

This site is the most comprehensive and by far the best constructed that I have ever visited. Compliments to all who are responsible. Having had an interest in the Zulu campaigns and in particular Rorke's Drift and Isandhlwana (managed to visit them in 1979), this site has been a real joy. Thankyou.

Dear Prince Shange,
it was a pleasure to meet you at the designation of the plaque to CS Bourne last year.
We appreciate your favourable comments on the site. We like to think we keep a balanced view, and only feature the individuals involved. I hope we meet again sometime.

Through the dedicated work of those involved in the Rorke's Drift VC website, I can see a new development as to the general understanding of the events of the 22nd-23rd January, 1879.

This is a fine site to remember the events at Rorke's Drift, and yet you have advanced our own understanding of the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879 through the medium of the internet.

Well Done!

His Royal Highness Prince V.A. Shange.

Thanks for this site. 11 VC's in one action amazing, but were the 11 awarded to deflect attention of the previous battle?

After seeing the film 'Zulu' as a small boy I developed a love for the film and a fascination with the event. I decided then that one day I would visit Rorkes Drift. Some twenty years later (Dec 7th 2000)I found myself standing 'on the slopes of the mountain of Isandlwana'. With my heart pounding, my hair standing on end and a tear in my eye I could only imagine the awesome sight of the Zulu army charging towards my position. I moved on to Rorkes Drift, stood at the redoubt and whilst looking out to Shiyane hill, the Zulu appeared again. A very moving and humbling experience. Thanks for an excellent website. Long may it remain . Ian
