A great and informative site. The movie zulu has always been my favourite, Its also the movie that inspired Ray Winston to become an actor.

What a brilliant site. excellent work
8th February 2007Greg from the U.S.
I was shocked to hear of David's tragic passing. This was the first time on this site and I was really enjoying it, till I read of this shocking news! What a waste of a good man and historian. I've been reading alot about the history behind Rorke's Drift for some time and I believe it is one the finest hour(s) of a true soldier. I was in Kenya, and I feel the same shock now as I felt when I found out about George Adamson's passing.

Continue on in David's memory.

What a wonderful site! I have been enjoying it to the utmost for many weeks now. As an avid British Militaria Collector and Historian I appreciate sites of this calibre and of this depth. Indeed an honour to visit. I liked it so much I went out and bought a Martini-Henry rifle for my collection! Cheers!

What a fantatic site. After just watching Zulu again (poetic licence accepted) I wanted to find out more about those involved.

To Nicky and the boys - and all those touched by this horrific and unnecessary murder my thoughts are with you. I grew up in Dundee, but now live in Arklow, Ireland. Why? - SAFETY FOR MY CHILDREN. When will the government wake up and do something?

I see your emtrance relating to Private John Shergold (you are one of his ancestors).

I have been told that so am I (I believe he was related through marriage on my late dad's side of the family).

ANY INFORMATION FROM YOU RELATING TO THIS WOULD, INDEED BE MOST WELCOME

GOD BLESS ALWAYS

In Zulu we say alwehlanga lungehlanga ... David would have understood that. Lala ngokuthula, siyabonga ngokusigcinela umlando wabokhokho bethu abasala nabanqoba eSandlwana. Lala ngokuthula...

To the Nicky and family,
I was appalled to hear of your tragic loss, words seem strangely inadequate.
My friends and I visited your farm in 1995 and the memory of the trip will remain with me for ever. Although this was not enough, so we all went to see David speak at the Royal Geographic on a number of occasions and I have even been to the cathedral in Brecon to see the memorial. David inspired me with the way he brought history to life and truth to history. Please accept my heartfelt condolences.

To Nicky and the boys!
Our sincere sympathy goes to you and those who mourn with you, not least of all, all the many special Zulu folk in your area, who so loved your David too. He was a hero to me - somebody, who did it all right, in my eyes!
With our loving condolences to you all,
Stella Cockburn and Family

What a fantatic site. After just watching Zulu again (poetic licence accepted) I wanted to find out more about those involved. I was fortunate enough to stumble onto your site. On hearing the "men of harlech" and reading Colour sargeant`s transcript it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
To those who were there thank you.

We have just heard about David's tragic death. Our condolences to Nicky and family. Also to all at Fugitive's Drift. He will be greatly missed by many, many people here in UK where he was held in high esteem, as well others across the world. For ourselves, we remember with gratitude his kindness and consideration on our two visits in 2000 and 2002. May he rest in peace.

HELLO MARK ROBERTS, ANY CHANCE OF A FEW PICTURES EMAILED, THANK-YOU. [email protected]

As far back as i can remember, when i was a young boy, the memory of watching 'Zulu' stuck fast in my mind. Being young and having a zest for these heroes (which we seem to lack in these politicaly correct days), certainly leaves a foot print upon your life. It seems that my passion for such deeds has also passed to my eight year old son, who has also developed similar interests. My wife and i have a newly born baby boy, and after some bullying from my son and i he has the middle name of Chard.
May their memory last, always.....

I managed to make it Lt Bromhead's grave in Allahabad, India a few weeks ago. I took quite a few pictures of the cemetry which is quite overgrown now, but his grave and the adjacent 2/24 Regt memorial are in very good condition and easy to read. IIf anyone is thinking of making the trip, Sahara air now flies direct from Delhi to Allahabad.
