Within a month of his flight his services were "dispensed with, being no longer required." The decision was published two days later. See LGO No 37(6) dated 19 Feb 1879 in Keith I. Smith, Local General Orders relating to the Anglo-Zulu War, 1879 (DP&G, 2005). No other punishment appears to have come to light. Peter |

Hi John
I am working on a book about Charlie Harford, which I am compiling from his own journals at present, and have some more information about Captain Stevenson that will be in the book which I hope to have finished later this year David |

Hi David,
I look forward to your book. Does it have a title yet? John |

Hi John
The title I am not sure about at present. I have a large volume of information relating to not only Charlie Harford's military experiences but also his adventures with natural history. I have already visited the store of the Natural History Museum in London and on my next trip to South Africa I will be going to the Durban Museum to complete the picture of his lifetime experiences. I also have an interesting collection of drawings, photographs and pictures from his family albums. When I have collated all of this then I will decide on the title - watch this space. David |
