The attached is the text from a Japanese postcard that appears to depict a young drummer of the 24th.

Can anyone assist with the translation, please?

Thanks in anticipation,

John

A former colleague of mine is married to a Japanese but I'm afraid they emigrated Down Under last week! (And no, I don't think they've got tickets ...)

However, if you remain stuck on this, you could do worse than contacting the University of Kent at Canterbury, who have many Japanese students, perhaps asking for assistance with a general enquiry?

Peter,

Thanks, I've got SOAS just along my office, I could try there.

Are you sure he doesn't have tickets?

Body-searched him before he climbed aboard. Had I found a pair, I would have persuaded his wife to alight, relieved her of her seat, a splosh of suncream and said ticket, and happily kipped on the pavement outside the Gabba for a week ...

A cracking story! but pity no Jimmy Mockett nor William Way on the medal roll - they each deserve one.

Just for the experts, the Marlborough battle honours were not gazetted to the 24th until 1882 - so were not on the Colours at Isandlwana.
