Johnny,

the point has been raised before. In the main, the forum exhausted itself. It had such
discussions which covered most areas of the war, the main contributors, either died
or moved on to apply their expertise to other subjects, having reached a wall.

I leave the forum here because it does cover a wide range of excellent topics and items
which are available for reference. The site, other than the forum, is as comprehensive
a reference to the events of 1879 as you can probably get.

I want to avoid turning it into a tabloid forum, and leave that to others.

Glad you're around still and feel free to contribute as you wish.

Stephen,

No the Hackney Empire, where they strictly enforce the No comedians, please policy!

Best wishes to all & stay safe.

I am still here!! It would be rather a shame to let this site go after all the effort that's been made with it.

Julian,

the site isn't going anywhere but the forum only works if sufficient people contribute to it. It's still open.

I suppose I might get some objections on the basis that it glorifies war or colonialism.
There are more stupid people with stupid ideas coming to the surface these days.

Good morning, chaps

Long time no see. Everything had grounded to a halt here, re COVID 19, but I do not have to tell you that.

I'll happily help with defending that empire, but leave the protesters and the defilers out in the cold...

Stay well, from an uncommonly cold, and sopping wet Dundee, KZN.

Now that they have banned the movie Gone with the Wind as an option to watch on catch up TV. Will we be Now denied the opportunity of watching Zulu on as part of the traditional Christmas period festivities? The world has gone mad - a often used phase these days.

To be honest Martin, many people I know are beginning to despair at the nonsensical
steps being taken to appear to be all inclusive and to show how our imperialism was a force
for evil.

It's not advisable to put forward any counter views because of the labels which would be
attached to you.

I think we will just have to hope that common sense will prevail but holding your breath isn't
to be recommended.

Very definitely still here.
Just discovered that Sir Henry Bartle Frere and Robert Jones VC both had strong links to Haileybury College, Herts. which is no more than ten assegai throws from where I live. Small world!

Hoping everyone is getting through this crazy time.

Best regs, Colin Fielding.

Colin,

do you live in Hoddesdon or Hailybury or Hertford? I lived in Hertford and worked in
Hoddeson at one time. Peter, my son, lives in Hertford.

Peter learned to play the flute at the College.

What was Robert Jones's connection?

Just noticed you have Chelmsford as location. That's quite a few assegai throws.

Hi Alan, firstly, it wasn't Robert Jones, it was Neville Coghill VC, not sure what I was thinking then!
Coghill was a student there for four years (some info on college website).
I think that college has 16 VCs to its name, third behind Eton and Harrow.
I temporarily now live in Great Amwell, near Ware. I moved last August but am moving to High Wycombe in the autumn.
