I was just toying around in Photoshop and came up with this.
None of this is original to me the painting is well known, and the Bugler is a screenshot from Zulu Dawn.

What do you think?
I am by no means a Graphic artist, I was just messin about seeing what I could come up with.

Johnny

Quite evocative

And quite handy when you're following the thread on the bayonets and want to see the bayonet in the Fripp painting they're refering to!

* Fixed it slightly up by the bugle it was noticable that there was a box from the zulu dawn screenshot that made part of the Background dark, and I slightly fixed it.

This really only took 5mins work, I wonder what I could do with some lessons or tutorials in this?

* Corrected version

Fun stuff that Photoshop! The opacity is excellent, but you might have "blurred" the overlay into the 1st layer a bit more and maybe gotten a less abrupt transition between the two layers. I would have reversed the bugler so that his profile was mirrored and set off by by the mountain and skyline a bit more, but hey, that's what art is all about! Which version of Photoshop do you work with? More importantly, I think I know what you were trying to say, but am I correct?

Hmmm... perhaps you'd be interested in doing some Zulu Total War texture work? Laughing

Seriously, Photoshop is a lot of fun for manipulating computer images - though personally I still prefer the tactile feel and smell of the old oils and brushes.

Don't be afraid to experiment with stuff you can do some really amazing things with that program.

Lovely work by the way!

My Idea was basically like a homage, a "Last post" kind of deal.

You have the 24th in the Background and a ghostly image of a Bugler playing the last post, at the site of the overwhelming of the 24th.

that sort of deal.
I am going to mess around with it some more later on.

Here is me messing around with a scene from the four feathers, trying go just get the hang of balancing Black and White VS Colour.

What do you think of the general idea so far?
Any pointers?

That was certainly my sense from your overlay! Artistically (and there's not much artistry on my part), I'm a minimalist at heart . My feeling is that less is best and that the black and white stuff you're doing is a great start. And as the Japanese artists say, "art is what the artist takes out of of picture, not what he puts into it"! Compose in B/W since colour can often be the refuge of those who lack talent! Then do the colour.
