I would have thought that Brecon would be well blessed. I've noticed others like 'Cambrai' or similar so it seems likely.

Colin - many thanks; I should have thought about Llantarnam. Can you remind me when it was named? Regards, Paul |

Hi,
it's only been in existence for perhaps three or four years if that. It is on the site of the former John Fielding House Institute, opposite where he is buried. Regs, Col. |

I found an Isandula Terrace in Nottingham, Ulundi Street in Manchester, Ulundi Road in London and Johnstone (Scotland) but nothing in Wales.

2-24/593 Pte William Jones of RD fame was born in Evesham, Worcs! Might there be a blue plaque on a wall somewhere? I have come across a Pulleine Road and a Degacher Street in Nairne South Australia, perhaps there are more? |

There's a Napier Street next to Mays Hill Cemetery, Parramatta, Sydney, Australia.
It's there that 1542 Pte. John William Roy DCM (24th. Regt.) is buried in an unmarked grave. |

Paul,
Not in Wales, but the following were all built & inhabited by April 1881: Isandula House, Underhill Rd, Camberwell. 1 & 2, Zulu Place, Passage Rd, Saul, Glos. Zulu Crescent, Wandsworth, London 1 - 5 Zulu Terrace, Preston, Lancs. Zulu Terrace, Old Cricket Field, Clarborough, East Retford, Notts. The Zulu Tavern, Wolsey St, Ipswich (not quite Wolseley!) 1 - 4 Zulu Villas, Grosvenor Rd, Aldershot (so no hard feelings then!) 1 - 8 Zulu Cottages, Chelmsford Rd, Edmonton. (Someone had a sense of humour!) Zulu Villa, Peperharow Rd, Godalming, Sy. Zulu St., Leeds, Yorks. Zulu St., Wigan, Lancs. No doubt all brand new, unless renamed. Not surprisingly, not one of them was there in April 1871. And perhaps conspicuous by their absence in Wales? Peter P.S. And also by Apr '81, a house name, Rorke's Drift, in Fisherton Anger, Salisbury, Wilts. P.P.S. Chard St., Axminster. Chard St., Thorncombe, Dorset Bromhead St., Mile End Old Town. |

Not quite AZW but I live in Howick New Zealand which was founded by Fencibles retired soldiers from the Napoleonic Wars who immigrated to New Zealand between 1847 and 1852, hence the number of streets in this area with reference to that war. I live on Wellington Street, around the corner is Waterloo Street, there is a Howe and Moore, further down the block there is Gibraltar and then Nelson, Abercrombie and Drake. I feel surrounded by history although I would imagine most people who live here now would have no idea of the connection between the street names and the Napoleonic Wars.

Most interesting, and thanks to you all for the suggestions. Has anyone ever compiled a list of AZW street names (i.e. beyond those you have suggested here)?
