Been meaning to ask this but it kept slipping my mind. In ZULU and in some photos of reinactors and such I keep seeing the 24th Foot with what seems to be Black or at least dark coloured facings that certainly can't be green, but common knowledge has them with green facings. What's up with that (or am I missing something here)?

Many thanks guys,

It's a dark green so maybe comes out looking more black in photos.

Well in terms of the film Zulu, its poor transition to the media its on.
I say this because in the old VHS, the facings look blue, on the cheapo-dvd I got from wallmart they are dark black/blue ish looking. However on the MGM Classic's Digitally Remastered Version they clearly are dark green.

Hope that helps.

many thanks Dawn and Johnny,

Clarifies a LOT. Thought I was going 'jolly blind' for a moment there...

Cheers,

I stand ready to be corrected but I think "grass green" is the official colour description for the 24th facings.

However I have a military magazine somewhere buried in my room with reenactors, and the facings green colour is more pronounced.

who knows?
Unless you can find an original tunic, that has been vacuum sealed since 1879

Johnny,

There are plenty of original tunics with green facings at the regimental mueum in Brecon. Well worth a visit next time you're down that way - which won't be an every day occurrence from your house I know!! But worth stowing away in the back of your mind for that next 'Eurotrip'.

Regards

Mike

I will if i ever get around that way, I am going to England as soon as I can afford it, I don't know how much time I will have for Musuems and stuff seeing as I have a much more important reason for going.

But I will eventually get around to seeing some of those sites if I get the chance Cool

In England, yes, of course. But when you pop over the border to Wales, are there really any more important venues than the Regimental Museum of the 24th and its successors??? Including a very large room devoted entirely to genuine exhibits from the AZW of 1879? And while you're in Brecon, a short stroll from the museum will take you to the cathedral itself, where you can marvel at the very Queen's Colour which Melvill & Coghill gave their lives for, laid up in all its glory, as well as other reminders of the regiment and the AZW itself.

Unless you're coming over to GB for, say, just a quick lunch (but Concorde has closed down!) you simply have to allocate a day in Brecon. You'll never forget it and if you don't do it, you'll always regret it.

Get your priorities right, man!
