As an aside, the final helmet of your three.

It looks like a Transvaal Artillery helmet plate.

Any info on these helmets is appreciated.

Here are some pictures of pith helmets from the Zulu War photos. They do vary in shape, but the one predominantly represented is the narrow, straight sided, rounded front. [img][/img]



The last photo shows a peaked helmet and a flared helmet. Obviously the volunteers may have procured their helmets from various sources. The flexible helmet, squashed in the portrait at the bottom is interesting.

This first shot of a helmet is from the photo of Chard sitting with his fellow RE Officers. The second picture is of course Fripps version of the desperate last stand of the 24th. You can't beat Fripp.
