This isn't intended to a plug - more a public service announcement:

I have briefly mentioned this once before some time ago on the forum, but Ian Knight is doing an entire weekend course on the Anglo-Zulu War at Missenden Abbey in Bucks over the weekend 28-30 April this year, and having checked with the Abbey, places are still available.

The outline of the course I've just copied from their website is:

THE HISTORY OF ZULU KINGDOM NEW COURSE
Tutor: Ian Knight
X22HU09A5 28th 30th April 2006
This course will examine the causes, course and consequences of the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879, one of the most iconic wars of Victorian colonial period. It will explore the rise of the Zulu Kingdom in southern Africa early in the nineteenth century, and its tangled relationship with the British Empire. It will look in detail at the famous battles of Isandlwana and Rorkes Drift both the subject of popular feature-films and it will consider how the war impacted on British policy in southern Africa. The course is intended both to give an introduction to those new to the subject, and to provide a range of alternative interpretations to those already familiar with the subject.

Pity, wrong Bucks. If someone here attends it would be nice to pass on to the rest of us the range of new interpretations. Could there be a new book in the works by Mr. Knight perhaps?
