The hotels can be expensive in that area. If you can't get in at the Easyhotel then try the Travel Lodge just over the river at Battersea.

I agree, Easy Hotel in Victoria is OK for a 1 night stay though always seems to be full.

Otherwise the Travel Lodge in Battersea is only 10 mins away on the 170 bus which stops right outside the NAM and pretty much directly outside the hotel. Or if you don't wish to experience London Transport on a Saturday evening the journey would be around 7/8 in a taxi.

Hi Sillymajor

Do you have an update on the timetable for the daytime events? I'm thinking mostly of the lecture by Ian Knight, which I'm sure will be fascinating as well as been a great appetizer for the main event later.

many thanks.

Dear Mark

There is quite a lot going on throughout the day and the actual timetable has yet to be firmed up but IK will be speaking at 1230. Should this change I will let you know.

best

Of equal importance is the subject of in which pub we should gather later.

I suggest a stroll upto the Kings Road. Not a great pub area but a couple of decent ones nonetheless.

and perhaps the Trafalgar?

That's very kind of you Simon. Mine's a pint. Smile

Could I suggest the Coopers Arms which is nearer to the NAM?

Would anybody be interested in a quick meet inside the NAM prior to the 5.30 kick off?

Coopers Arms is a good choice, and not to loud or busy for a Saturday night plus the food and beer is top notch and only a 5 - 10 min stroll. Other option is the Phoenix which is even closer though limited on space and choice of beers.

All the following info should go up on the NAM website this week but giving you guys the heads up.

Mighty Zulu Nation are putting on their Zulu dance routine/workshop at

11.00
13.00
14.00
15.00

Link to example of what they do
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SNASBNV41k&feature=related

For the kids we have African animal handling (spider, lizards, snakes etc) running all day, African Storytelling will be at

11.30
13.00
15.00

And Zulu shield making again running all day.

Ian Knight talk on the history of the British Army in South Africa will run from 12.30 for approx 45 mins including Q&A.

Interpretors from AZW, Boer and WWI Africa will be present all day with weapon firing at 10.30, 12.30 and 13.30.

Not much going on after 1600 so the perfect time to grab a pint before the evening event kicks off at 1730.

WBritain has joined in promoting the event posting it on both of their USA and UK websites. Wish I could join you who are attending it for it looks to be an informitive and enjoyable event for all. Would be nice to hear that the question I've posed who lead the rescue of the water cart was brought up and answer and your comments on the WBritain's Rorke's Drift Diorama...The Lt.

All,
Who would be interested in a RDVC get together before the NAM 17.30 kick off on Sat? Prior to other possible ideas, could I suggest the Coopers Arms say 15.00 to 15.30?

Excellent idea, Mel. I shall be there too, with a brother in tow. Simon as well, by the look of it? What about the others - Peter Weedon, Dewi, PBQ, Mark, John Keighley and others have said they'll be attending, or hope to. I've met some, but not others, so rather than suggest we all wear a funny hat, I'll just gravitate towards that loud group at the bar and hope! (Neil will doubtless have a M-H slung over his shoulder anyway, otherwise I'll just look out for Mark's Leeds Utd shirt).

I will be there. Planning to arrive at the NAM early afternoon to collect my ticket - and my free figure - so will gravitate towards the pub after that.
