Chard On News Of Col. Durnford's Death ?

There was mention in an account by Chard about his thoughts on his 3(?) sappers killed at Isandlwana, but I wondered, if at any time, he expressed any opinion on the loss of Col. Durnford - perhaps in a diary ?

Thanks

Which diary?

Had he ever met Durnford? He had only arrived in South Africa (I think) on 7 January 1879.

Martin

He met Durnford on his return trip from Isandlwana to Rorke's Drift, warning him about the presence of Zulus.

Whether they had previous contact before this, I know not.

I'd imagine quite a few officers had diaries, but I don't know if Chard had one at that time, or wrote in a journal later.
