Steve,
By an extraordinary quirk of fate, I was at a lunch party yesterday. Present was a Joan Walker. Her Grandmother's brother was George Mossop. Three brothers, Joseph, Thomas and James emigrated from Cumberland to South Africa in 1849 aboard the "S.S. Gem." One went on to Australia, whilst James Mossop settled in Natal. His son George Joseph Mossop, was born in Durban on 17 August 1861 and, at the tender age of twelve, left home to become a 'Despatch Rider.' A limited edition of "Running the Gauntlet" is being reprinted by Joan's brother, Gordon Button, in Cape Town. To answer your question, he died on 22 May 1938 and was buried in Umtali, Southern Rhodesia. |

Andrew,
I spoke to Gordon Button last night. He tells me that he is getting quotes to re-print. He will let let know if he proceeds; if so I will let the forum know. |

Hi everyone,
I know it's a while ago but was 'Running the Gauntlet' ever reprinted? I am particularly interested in Mossop's horse Warrior and would be grateful for any information about him. Many thanks, Margaret McFarlane |
