Milne's Aid |
Signalman 1st Class W.H. Aynsley |
John Young
|
Andrew,
His name was Signalman 1st Class W.H. Aynsley, he was a member of the ship's company of Her Majesty's Ship Active. He was Milne's 'Sailor Servant' - like an army officer's batman. It was A. B. Milne who was the Aide-de-Camp, rather than Aynsley being an aid [sic]. I hope that's of some use at least. John Y. |

You may be interested to know that when I organized the British military representation at the 125th Anniversary Commemoration, held on the battlefield at Isandlwana, all the units you might typically expect were represented, but I was also able to take along a Lieutenant RN, who laid a wreath to Aynsley.
