I know a little about the sailor from the HMS Active who was Milne's aid and how he put his back to the wagon wheel and cut the Zulus down with his cutlas.Does anyone have any more to say about him? Plus I live in the States and I can't visit Brecon or any place that concerns the RN. So if you can help me out that would be great. Thanks from Andrew

Andrew,

His name was Signalman 1st Class W.H. Aynsley, he was a member of the ship's company of Her Majesty's Ship Active.

He was Milne's 'Sailor Servant' - like an army officer's batman.

It was A. B. Milne who was the Aide-de-Camp, rather than Aynsley being an aid [sic].

I hope that's of some use at least.

John Y.

Andrew

You may be interested to know that when I organized the British military representation at the 125th Anniversary Commemoration, held on the battlefield at Isandlwana, all the units you might typically expect were represented, but I was also able to take along a Lieutenant RN, who laid a wreath to Aynsley.

Mike

Mr.England
Am having a hard time finding W.H.Aynsley on the KLM.Plus why is there a prehistoric bird in the picture of three of you standing by the grave?
