The plot thickens a bit, I have found a quote/ memorandum from Redvers Buller VC, dated 11-6-1880 in Skennerton Treatise BMM .402 & .303 Martinis. Stating that volunteers under his command is South Africa were armed with Snider carbines from April-December 1878; and from Late December with Martini Henry Carbines (type not stated, but a good possibility of Swinburn).
