Just to let everyone know that 28-30 April 2006, Ian Knight is doing an entire weekend on the above subject at Missenden Abbey in Bucks.

Missenden Abbey is a residential adult education centre, and they run numerous courses on a huge range of subjects throughout the year.

To quote from the brochure, it says of the course: 'Examine the causes, course and consequences of the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879, one of the most iconic wars of the Victorian colonial period. It will explore the rise of the Zulu Kingdom in southern Africa early in the nineteenth century, and its tangled relationship with the British Empire. It will look in detail at the famous battles of Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift - both the subject of popular feature films - and it will consider how the war impacted on British policy in southern Africa. The course is intended to give an introduction to those new to the subject, and to provide a range of alternative interpretations to those lready familiar with the subject.'

Appetite whetted? The booking no for Missenden Abbey is 0845 045 40 40, which is the no. for the Bucks CC adult education service.

I've been on several courses at Missenden Abbey - a couple on practical watercolour painting weekends and one on the Boer War, and can vouch for its lovely surroundings - and grub!
