After reading a bit more about him, on Wiki it says he done his National Service with the Royal Army Service Corps, which on checking seem to have eventually absorbed some elements of the Royal Engineers.
As Baker played Chard and intended to portray Durnford, could there have been more a connection he felt towards the R.E., rather than just the fact they were main characters in the films, even with his family if not himself ?
It is a tenuous link I know, but the fact he was to play both of these heroic figures, a bit unusual to be one of the leads in both films on the same subject in closely related battles, made me wonder if there was another reason he wanted to play them, not considered previously ?
Or was it due to both his and ZULUs popularity, wishing to repeat the success in ZULU DAWN using the same ingredients of the previous film ?
I guess another question for Sheldon Hall
