Out of interest, is this the only grave marked with the "Anglo Zulu War Society"?

Peter,
No to my knowledge the South Wales Branch marked four other graves using the same device and wording. John Y. |

Do you know which John?
Also, why does the plaque, and previous wreaths say '1879 - 1995'? |

Alan,
There were three at St. Woolo's in Newport. John Lyons; Alfred Saxty & John Murphy, the other one escapes me at the present time. Again as with Jobbins the families of Lyons and Saxty were, I believe involved in the design of the headstones. I believe that Murphy's family could not be traced, but the cemetery's authorities were involved in the sanctioning of the design and the wording of the headstone. 1995 the year the grave was marked. Well, all is done now. Least the chap has a nice headstone.
The politics of the various societies I will leave to others. I would share JY's sentiments; a regimental badge might have been more appropriate. But then, who am I to judge? As long as the family are content. AMB |
