Any comments regarding the situation with the museum would be welcome.

Hi Alan

Clarification:

The Museum building in Brecon Barracks is currently owned by the MOD, though the contents are owned by the Museum Trust. We would like to carry out a major refurbishment programme to increase the amount of display space and to improve the existing display. However to claim Heritage Lottery funding to accomplish these aims we would need to have security of tenure. We are therefore in negotiation with the MOD to either buy or lease the Museum building, this would then put us in a position to claim HL funding. If our bid for funding were to be successful then we would need to provide a degree of fund matching, and this is the basis for our current appeal.

In the unlikely event that we can not agree a sale/lease with the MOD then the appeal fund will be used for a scaled down refurbishment.

In either case the fund will NOT be used to supplement running costs nor to fund any move to another site.

A nice big splash in The Times this morning, Bill! Hopefully it will give the museum some welcome publicity. If your blood curdling yell and lunge mentioned by the reporter was anything like the one which lifted the roof when you thrust the bayonet at my son, he won't forget it in a hurry.
