I've just received my copy of Terry Sole's "For God, Queen and Colony." Money well spent if anyone is interested in the colonial units.

I discovered some new information on one of my men, James Liddell, recruited from England into the Natal Mounted Police in June 1879 to make up the numbers after Isandlwana.

Sole records that he is from Burdett Row. I assume that is a district of London but I'm not getting anywhere, although there is a Burdett Road in Mile End/Stepney/Tower Hamlets area.

Can anyone confirm the location of Burdett Row in the late 1870s?

Peter
