Hello Friends,

I have been trying to locate a photo or an very good drawing of both the Queens and Regimental colours of the 24th at the time of the Zulu war, with all of the battle honors etc:.
So far all i was able to get were the dimensions and no photos.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Fed Ex just dropped these off. The pole sleeve on the regimental is on the wrong side but that can easily be fixed. You would not believe the price for both. (Pure silk)

Dear Mikey,

A wonderful example of some fine work. However one minor point in case someone follows your images - the fringe on the Queen's Colour should be gold/red silk and that on the Regimental Colour gold/green. And the sleeve on the Regimental Colour should be red silk

Dear Mikey,

Both Colours have the Royal crest. They were presented in 1866.

Try:
http://www.toyekenningandspencer.com/

In the mid-18th century, the design of Colours of the 24th Regiment was described as: The Kings Colour being the Union flag consisting of the crosses of St. George and St. Andrew and in the centre XXIV Regt. surrounded by a wreath of roses and thistles. The Regimental Colour was green, the Union flag in the upper canton, the central device as in the Kings Colour. The size was six feet six inches flying and six feet deep in the pole. The length of the pike (spear and ferrule included) to be nine feet ten inches. These dimensions remained in force until 1857 when the size of Colours was altered to 3 feet 9 inches flying and three feet deep. At the same time the ornamental spearhead on the Colour pike was replaced by the lion and the crown - the crest of England - and the length of the pike reduced (in 1885) to eight feet seven and half inches (including the crest). In 1859, because of reports that the new pattern Colours with their reduced size were having a poor effect on Parade, the Queen sanctioned the addition of a silk and gold fringe to be added to each Colour (for the Queens Colour crimson/gold; for the Regimental Colour the facing colour (willow green)/gold). These are the dimensions in force today.

Greetings to Mikey,

Normaly I would not ask, but as you raised it, I have been left wondering as to whether you meant,

.."You would not believe the price for both. (Pure silk) , I'll have to take a bank loan to pay for it!"

or

"You would not believe the price for both. (Pure silk) how can they make it for so little?"

It's been niggling me as to which. Very Happy
