Someone will probably give more accurate details, but in the book 'Zulu: Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift 22-23 January 1879'., by Ian Knight, there is a large colour plate, apparently based on Younghusband.
He is shown with a holster for his Adams revolver on a shoulder strap, what looks to be a case for binoculars, also on a shoulder strap, and what appears to be a water bottle, again on a shoulder strap. Coll |

Kelsard,
To be frank we don't know what uniform Captain Younghusband was wearing at Isandlwana. We can speculate only. It is plausible that he was wearing a scarlet, unlined, India Pattern patrol jacket. If we believe the myth he was wearing canvas leggings/gaiters. Would he have carried a waterbottle & haversack? I would say he would have. John Y. |

Many thanks for the info given.
John's description more or less confirms something i read a while back and can not remember where, of a Zulu's account of the battle . fighting against the far left of the British line [which would put him in the area of capt Younghusband] an officer fighting alongside a wagon in his red tunic and brown caiters so brave. Coll the book mentioned has been ordered many thanks. |
