Yes it is a Drummer's Sword (Line Pattern), missing its cross guard.

Could you elaborate a bit on what the 'Line Pattern' is, and if possible from what time period did the British Army start and stop using these swords.

Lavagna,

'Line Pattern' as in Infantry of the Line.

First introduced in 1856, it was still in use until superceded by the 'Sword, Drummer's Mk. II and Bugler's Line Regiments' in 1895. Which was almost the same design.

To my knowledge they were in use in Full Dress during the reign of King George V, as there are photographs in which they still appear.

I imagine that relic has an interesting story behind it. Care to share it with us? Where exactly in your neck (nek?) of the woods does one dig up such things or would you rather not say?
