I was surprised to read in a book of Ian Knights that the Royal Navy contributed at least two Armstrong cannon to Pearson's column! Just an interesting aside that was a bit of a revelation to me. They might have come in handy if they'd be in a better place at a better time.

The Active's Armstrong guns were otherwise preoccupied on 22nd January 1879 at Nyezane. They provided Pearson with half of his artillery strength.
