Date | Original Topic | 29th December 2004 | South Africa Medal (1877/79) By Angela Glynn My great uncle was killed in action at Isandlwana. Can anyone tell me if he would have been entitled to the South Africa Medal (1877/79)? | Date | Replies | 29th December 2004 | Phil Pearce Hi Angela
I am under the impression that if he was there serving in the British army he would have been entitled to the campaign medal. I could be wrong. | 29th December 2004 | Martin Everett Angela,
Did you not understand my message? - yes his NOK did receive the medal according to the medal roll. The clasp on the roll was given as '1879' - however in common with a number of soldiers of 1/24th I guess he should have received the clasp '1877-8-9'
You cannot now get a replacement. If the medal is around Isandhlwana casualty medals now fetch about £7,000.
