18th January 2002 | Who's your favourite Zulu character? By Glenn Wade Hi There everyone! I was wondering if you could just give a quick note to say who your favourite character from 'Zulu'is? Is it Schiess or Bromhead, Chard or Hughes? Let's see who is the most popular?(My favourite is Hook, no doubt about that!) Bye! |

18th January 2002 | Gary Laliberty My vote is for Colour Sergeant Bourne, played by Nigel Green. "And a bayonet Sir!...
With some guts behind it!"
Gary |
18th January 2002 | Diana Blackwell Hooky, of course! |
18th January 2002 | Frank Muscal I vote for Stanley Baker - Chard. |
18th January 2002 | mj It's hard to pick one.
I thought Michael Caine did a great job for his first film as Lt. Bromhead. |
19th January 2002 | Greg Has to be Stanley Baker-Chard, for my vote. |
19th January 2002 | Alan Critchley Mj,
Michael Caine was in 13 films before Zulu.
But for me, Nigel Green as CS Bourne was great. Nothing like the real character mind.
Nigel Green named his house in London 'Rorke's Drift' . Neat?

19th January 2002 | Stephen Good question.
My favourite was the warrior with the brown and white cowhide sheild. You now, the one in the first charge...the depth of character was very moving.
Cheers |
19th January 2002 | Arthur Bainbridge it has to be hooky a working class hero |
19th January 2002 | Kyle Smith Cpl. Allen, one of the most under-rated defenders!
|
20th January 2002 | Glenn Wade Hooky's winning, with Bourne and Chard in second place! Come on Bromhead and Allen! |
20th January 2002 | Eddie Saunders Nominations for favourite character category are as follows:
Miss Witt
The members of "Ripen at noon" (are they the ones we get to see at the beginning?)
The bull that got it's horns stuck in the gate (always worried about that one... hope it was ok)
Will, (the one Bromhead keeps telling them to fire at, "that's very nice of him")
Stephenson (of Durnford's Horse) Does the sensible thing and legs it, if I were there he'd have been right on my heels.
How about a category for best vocal performance?
Sgt Maxfield's "Pretty little Polly Perkins"
Mr Witt's "My love, my love..."drunken slur"
Wotsisname's rendering of "Deck the halls" after the first attack (can never remember his name & why a Christmas Carol?)
Actually, considering the number of times people break into song during the film, maybe it could go down as the most violent musical ever! |
20th January 2002 | Barry Iacoppi My vote must go to Bourne. The classic line he says to the young soldier with the top button of his tunic undone. "Where do you think you are lad"? Gave him my vote. |
21st January 2002 | Ian Essex "Alright then! Nobody told you stop working!"
Colour Sergeant Bourne by a mile. |
21st January 2002 | Bill Power Cpls.& Sgts.!! These are what make an army!! Young Pups, still wet behind the ears,Lieutenants, with their purchased commissioms, must be taken in hand-lest they make daft orders!! Bourne & Allen !! Plus,Dalton, the boyo that, really, organized the defence, being an ex- sgt. of a line regiment! Chard & Bromhead were about to do a bunk, when he organized the ramparts!!So,Ladies & Gentlemen, today is JAN. 21/02!! Let use hoist a few for all our soldiers 'round the world, just like the Lads on this day long ago!! |
21st January 2002 | Eddie the drummer type dude th Ok, serious time, yes it has to be Bourne. Honest too.. " I was asleep Sir". |
24th January 2002 | Phil Read Without doubt, Colour Sergeant Bourne and his magnificent whiskers! The best line is uttered by the Private, I think his name is Tommy, who is more concerned about the sick calf than the 4,000 Zulus. He complains about the quality of the soil, saying 'there's no moisture in it - nothing to hold a man in his grave'. A great line. |
24th January 2002 | Glenn I think Colour sergeant Frank Bourne or Nigel Green(whoever you prefer)has won!
Bye! Glenn |
27th January 2002 | Hugh Campbell
May late entry is for Bromhead, the pompous high brow self-righteous British officer who discounted the "fuzzies" as an unorganized horde. |
5th February 2002 | Jay and Pablo got to be the brave chap standing feet away from a zulu warrior pointing at him whilst instructing, "Watch out! pot that chap someone! good fellow! good fellow!" |
6th February 2002 | John Young It has got to be Adendorff, he's got the best one-liners in the movie.
John |
8th February 2002 | Dan Rudary Hi Glenn!
Well, I saw your topic in the discussion collum, so here's my vote. My two favorite characters are Color-Sergant Bourne, and Lt. Chard, RE.
Your Friend,
Dan |
26th February 2002 | Diana Blackwell Phil Read,
That line you quote, about no moisture in the soil, etc., is fantastically beautiful. And full of implications. You remember correctly--his name *is* Tommy. (As in Atkins?)
|
5th June 2003 | Simon Copley Maxfield by a mile!!!!
Hook-k-k-k-. Pick up your bayone-t-t-t-t-
(Falls over)
I made a soldier out of youuuuuuu!!! (gets crushed by burning beam) Classic!
Second place to Ulla J (Margaret)
"Animuuuulllls!" Brilliant Swedish accent!
Not bad for a Scandinavian. |
