Could the makers of "Zulu" chsoen the "bad boy" of the 24th to be H. Hook based on his
surname (someone on the hook (disreputable)?

I doubt it in the special features it says that the directors wanted a rough character and they chose Hook because he was the hero of the film.

Actually, as one of the contributors to that DVD, I've always thought that the reason Hook was selected as the bad boy was because his name made him sound like one (whereas Hitch sounds more comical than villainous or heroic). This is pure conjecture, mind you.
