I've seen a poem apparently written by or about Pte. Henry Hook. It begins: "That summer the crops failed. One of many failures". But I've found no indication of author or other details. I thought it was good and would like to see more. Anyone know of the origins? Thanks.

I have contacted Ray with the information, courtesy of John Young.
For anyone else interested I believe that the poem is by a Scot called McGonagall. You can find it at
