By [email protected]
I have always been interested in military history, espicially about the War of 1812, the Napoleanic Wars, and the American Revolution. I have just recently found an intrest in Victorian British military history, and thus the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879. So in that sense, I am an ametature, and I would like to know if there were any battles fought between British Regulars and Zulus before 1879. If anyone knows anything about this, or if you know taht there were not any pre-1879 battles, please let me know. Thanks!

Hi W. Rudary,
There are some interesting battles before and after the Zulu War. The book 'The White Men Sang' by Alexander Fullerton tells about the Matabele War of December 1893. It took place in Rhodesia and is a similar account of bravery as Rorke's Drift is. A small force against a very large force. It is a real example of bravery...I encourage you to learn about it.

Hi
As you may know there are plenty of books on the War of 1812. But you'll want to get books written by non-Americans. Try Pierre Burton's 2 volume set called 'War of 1812' as it is very well written.
The problem is with this War is that the US started it in order to conquer Canada but they lost the major battles. They didn't realize that Canadians wanted to remain part of the British Empire. Fully 80% of the population were United Empire Loyalists who had fled the US to Canada in 1789, so its obviouss they weren't going to surrender the country in 1812.
