21st November 2001 | Attack on Zulus By David Johnson When Sir. Chard led the attack on Rorkes Drift on the 1500 Zulus, did he expect to do so well against the fortified Zulus? How did he do that good? What part did Brohmhead play when Chard led his coulum of 100 men to the Zulus Drift? I am very glad this attack on the Zulu King Rorkes's Drift turned out the way it did.
Some very brave men :) |

22nd November 2001 | Peter Critchley Hi David,
Err... The details were somewhat different to the version you have.. I would suggest reading "The Battle" which is listed in the menu on the left. The details in there will clarify the battle for you (for example, the encampment at Rorke's Drift was a British camp, which was attacked by the Zulu's, not the other way round).
All the best,
Peter

24th November 2001 | Dave Terribly sorry for the miscalculation on the battle.
I meant to say when Sir Brohmhead led the attack on King Shaka at King Rourke's Drift
Once again sorry!

25th November 2001 | Stephen McDonald Dave, just to let you know that Sir Broomhead never did meet King Shalac in battle at Mickey Rourkes bar.
Perhaps you're thinking of a different war on a different planet.
Seriously though, this discussion area is for intelligent questions ...OK? Thanks |
27th November 2001 | Arthur Bainbridge A bit of nonsense here and there does no one any harm,Daves grip on history will keep me amused on my long night shifts. |

Dave, you ask whatever questions you want & the rest of us will do our best to make sense out of it.
Cheers |
28th November 2001 | Peter Critchley An amusing post! :-)
It's always worth remembering that whilst most of us will know the key facts, it is not always general knowledge - in fact, I am far from knowing everything myself, and doubt I ever will.. Still, all good fun!
Regards,
Peter

Best thing to do is to read the Web page here,or go out and buy a book Publish by "Osprey" military books. It's called "Rorke's Drift 1879" Campaign Series #41 by Ian Knight. It's about $18. Hope this has helped. |
