15th June 2003	The Steep Ledge By Andrew The ledge, that the north wall was built on was very steep so how did the Zulus actually manage to get up to the ledge to fight the defenders.

23rd June 2003	Simon Copley One of the reasons the Brits won was because this ledge added 2 feet to the barrier on the Zulu side while still being about 4 feet on the defenders side. It's much easier to defend yourself while fighting over a 4 foot barrier with a rifle and bayonet than to attack across a 6 foot barrier. So the Zulus found it really hard to get up to come to grips with the defenders
