13th May 2003	private thorne , 6th dragoon guards, rorkes drift By ray thorne does anyone have any biographical details on the above soldier whose grave is situated in the same area as those of the RD defenders. He was drowned in the Buffalo river on 22 Oct 1884, presumably while passing through the area. I would be most interested to research any family connection.

14th May 2003	Martin Everett Dear Ray, Army Records in their wisdom destroyed the papers of men who died in service (no pension to pay!). So there is unlikely to be any records in the Public Record Office at Kew - expect that his name might be on casualty list - but no personal details. At starting point could be the regimental museum: The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, The Castle, Edinburgh EH1 2YT and possibly try the 1871 & 1881 Census if he was in the UK.
