Wednesday is the anniversary of Rorke's Drift. I note that the army fire crews of the Green Godesses in place of the firefighters who are on strike call themselves the Rorke's Drift brigade. Good for them.

Its disgracefil the fire men going on strike when war is only weeks away,if they had been Rorkes drift they would have left early rather than stand up and be counted. No way can they be compared to the heroes of Rorkes Drift loyalty to the country is paramont in times of war,

I think Arthur has mis-read Alan's piece and read it that the striking firemen are calling themselves Rorke's Drift Brigade, where in fact it is the Army fire crews. Yes it's a disgrace what the firemen are doing, but it's nice to know that our forces are still looking over us both at home and overseas.

It appears I have misread them apolgies all round

No apology needed, Arthur.

I agree competely with you on the firefighter's strike. At a time when Britain is being threatened with terrorism and with war looming, they SHOULD stand up and be counted, not putting people's lives at risk.

Rorke's Drift occured in an era when duty to your country, and self sacrifice for others, meant far more than it does today. The Fireman's strike is probebly the best example of this we have at the moment.
